Why a Federation?
The Federation system is founded on eternal values and traditions that spring from the very best the Jewish people have to offer. Our communities and partner agencies are led and staffed by people who embody those qualities. When confronted with a tragedy born in the worst corner of the human heart, we recognized our sacred responsibility to help the wounded and heal the sick, Jew and non-Jew alike. We have the capacity and the will to respond with acts of loving kindness.
The Federation’s purpose is to coordinate, facilitate, and enhance Jewish communal life in Savannah and around the world, and to preserve “the principles of the Jewish heritage and American democracy.”
Established in 1943, the Savannah Jewish Federation is the central address for all Jewish households in the Coastal Empire of Georgia.
- Educates young and old;
- Coordinates the Community Calendar;
- Prioritizes for local and global funding;
- Provides Social Services to members in need;
- Advocates for Israel to our government officials;
- Disseminates Jewish information to area residents;
- Funds Education for community synagogues;
- Welcomes newcomers to the community;
- Publishes Savannah Jewish Life magazine;
- Executes the Annual Campaign;
- Trains future leadership
