Savannah Jewish Federation
A Helping Hand
The Federation does its work through its committee structure, which, since its beginning in
1943 as a fund-raising organization, has grown more sophisticated, encompassing more and more
services.
The Federation/United Jewish Communities Annual Campaign each year involves a
hundred active volunteers who solicit financial contributions from members of the Jewish community
to support local and national Jewish needs. The most recent campaign raised over $1.3 million -
to help ensure a thriving Jewish community in Savannah and around the world.
The Allocation Committee oversees distribution of the money raised to Jews in
need in Savannah, in Israel, and other locations abroad. Federation funds support: The Jewish
Educational Alliance, Rambam Day School, Shalom School, Hebrew Community School, as well as other
local and national Jewish organizations.
Through the Community Relations Council (CRC), the Savannah Jewish Federation,
chaired by Dr. Paul Kulbersh, sought an active and public political role in response to the
unceasing terror assaults on Israel by Palestinian terrorists and the alarming increase in
anti-Semitic rhetoric in Europe and Africa.
